Updates on AMC visits arrangements

All social visits to the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) will be suspended as of close of business Sunday 22 March 2020, due to the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This is a necessary measure to assist in limiting the risk of infection to detainees, visitors and staff.
I recognise the significant impact on detainees and their loved ones and this is not a decision that has been taken lightly, but unfortunately it is extremely important that we do everything we can to protect the health and wellbeing of detainees, those working within the AMC and the wider community. I am sorry for the inconvenience and concern that this will cause in this challenging time.
ACT Corrective Services are currently exploring interim options to allow for audio-visual visits and increased detainee phone access. Further information will be published as soon as practicable.
This situation will continue to be monitored in line with advice from the Health Protection Service and we will ensure that you are advised once we are able to resume in-person social visits.
I would like to reiterate that this decision is one we have taken to protect the health and wellbeing of you, your loved ones and our staff.
