Unfortunately, a case of COVID-19 has been identified in the ACT and the individual was infectious whilst in the community. As a result, the ACT will enter a seven-day lockdown from 5pm today, 12 August 2021.
In order to protect the health and wellbeing of those in our care and our staff, face to face visits at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) will be suspended during this period and AVL visits will be maximised. All legal and professional in person visits will also be suspended and will be conducted electronically.
Detainees have been notified of these changes and will be provided updates as the situation develops.
While we understand that this may have a significant impact on detainees and their loved ones, the decision to suspend face to face visits is necessary to protect the health and wellbeing of detainees and staff within the AMC.
This situation will continue to be monitored in line with public health advice and we will ensure that you are informed once we are able to resume in-person social visits.
