Notice to Visitors Updates on AMC visits arrangements 06/2020

23 July 2020

ACT Corrective Services (ACTCS) has been working towards recommencing social visits at the AMC. We are continuing to work with the Public Health Service to ensure social visits commence when it is safe to do so, noting the evolving situation across the nation. We are continuing to assess the situation and will advise when visits will be possible.

It is important that social visits are conducted in a safe and gradual way to continue to protect the health and wellbeing of all within the centre.

Social visits and the number of visitors will be limited once they recommence. Visits will initially be limited to a maximum of one adult and one child per visit due to physical distancing requirements. Each detainee will only be able to receive one ‘in person’ visit per week but Zoom visits will continue to operate.

When we do recommence social visits, the following changes will be coming into effect:

  • detainee visitor nomination
  • visitors reregistering with ACTCS in line with nominations
  • COVID-19 screening form.

Visitor nomination

Future visits will require detainees to advise in advance who they wish to have visit them. Each detainee will be able to nominate 10 people to visit. Detainees are now able to access forms in advance of social visits returning.

Visitor Registration

When visits recommence, all visitors, irrespective of whether they have previously visited the AMC, will be required to confirm their identity with ACTCS before they can attend a visit. Further information regarding this process will be provided once a recommencement date is confirmed.

COVID-19 Screening Form

The health and wellbeing of our staff and those in our care continues to be our priority. To maintain our safeguards, it is important that all visitors to the AMC complete the ACTCS COVID-19 Screening Form each time they visit the AMC. This form will be available at the AMC but will also be available on the ACTCS website for your convenience.

All visitors are respectfully requested to follow the standard hygiene processes so that we can continue to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • take responsibility for your own hygiene – wash your hand properly for at least 20- 30 seconds with soap regularly
  • avoid touching your face as much as possible
  • maintain social-distancing as far as is possible – i.e. stay at least 1.5 metres away from other people
  • do not hug or shake hands
  • sneeze / cough into your elbow
  • most importantly if you feel unwell, please do not visit the centre.

I would again like to thank you all for your ongoing patience during this period. I hope to provide a further update regarding social visits soon.

Kind regards

Jon Peach
